Organoid

  • Additional Information

Organoid is a surface material made from real natural materials – like Alpine hay, edeltheyiss, or coffee grounds - for functional interior design. They maintain their natural properties, their scent, look and touch – which then can also be experienced in indoor spaces.

Production process

The fragrant Alpine hay is harvested by hand, which the farmers deliver straight to the site of production. The natural surfaces are produced using real plants, an ecological binding agent and heat. There, the hay is cleaned and cut before it is pressed into the final product in several layers, adhering to an exact formula and strict quality guidelines. The natural materials are pressed onto high-end backing materials, such as flax fleece and self-adhesive foil. The materials keep their natural characteristics when they are processed, which is why Organoid only uses the finest materials as they will become a part of their customers’ lives.

Material properties

Organoid makes surfaces of various thicknesses and on different backing materials, such as pure flax non-woven, long-lasting self-adhesive foil, Flexi, HPL, etc.

Surfaces on flax backing are breathable and add to a comfortable and healthy indoor climate. The material finds its applications as wallpaper, decorative veneer in woodworking, flooring, packaging, acoustic elements and for a wide range of other projects.

Circular features

Organoid deeply cares about the origin of its raw materials as well as its region, the Tyrolean Alps. That’s why they use 100% regional hay for their bestsellers. From the windows of their production site, they can see the slopes their farmers cultivate at rewarding conditions. This is how they help keep the century-old cultural landscape of the Austrian dry valleys alive.

By upcycling waste products, they are working to contribute to a circular economy. Wherever possible, they use leftovers from the food industry like spelts and sunflower seed hulls and also moss left over from moss wall production.

Raw Materials

Regionally sourced Alpine hay, flowers, upcycled moss, coffee grounds, lichen, spelt husks, and many more.

Afterlife Plan

- Organoid surfaces are durable and meant to last

- As a rule, however, simple disposal is possible for household waste, as with wood-based materials.

- The Organoid products on flax non-woven can also be industrially composted (provided they do not have any coarse paste residues).
