Ananasse TM
AnanasseTM by Verabuccia® is a bio-leather material made from pineapple peel that maintains the appearance of the original fruit.
Waste fruit peel, specifically pineapple peel, is transformed into a circular material that feels reptilian and serves as a cruelty-free, plus circular alternative to animal leather. Its differentiation power from other plant-based leathers is that it maintains the visual appearance of the pineapple peel without transforming the aesthetics of the primary fruit material.
Production process
Vérabuccia® collects waste pineapple peel from the local catering and hospitality industries. The peels are specially procured after the juice-extraction process and just before the decomposition sets in. The unique patented process operates without transforming or flattening the epidermis of the pineapple peel, thus acquiring the characteristics of traditional leather while maintaining the initial aesthetic aspect of the fruit peel.
The final product AnanasseTM is presented in a reduced size, requiring the union of several peels depending on the intended use.
The production is work-in-progress with continuous investment in research further optimizing the properties of AnanasseTM.
Material properties
Unlike other plant-based leathers in the market, AnanasseTM maintains its primary pineapple visuals without sacrificing the durable characteristics of traditional leather. With a visibly scaly surface like that of a reptile, the material can be sewn, pierced and coloured in various shades.
The different ideas that can be experimented with the surface of AnanasseTM diversify the original appearance of its epidermis.

Circular features
AnanasseTM is made without plastics, phthalates and their derivatives. It uses secondary raw materials from other Italian supply chains. There is complete reuse of waste in its pineapple peel, allowing the material to be cruelty-free. The subsequent research predicts the possible recovery and reuse of some substances.
