Wastural
The circular material is made from natural waste like disposed coffee grounds, date seeds and cork lids.
Production process
The waste materials are collected from various local centres, such as coffee shops or restaurants. Low energy method is used during the production process, which thus generates a low carbon footprint. The current manufacturing process is cast moulding.
Other natural and non-toxic substances are also added to enhance the mechanical properties of Wastural.
Material properties
Three types of Wastural can be produced, namely, coffee-based, date-based and cork-based. These three types have similar properties as follows:
- Tough surface
- Rigid structure
- Fire resistant
- Low thermal conductivity
- Vegan & cruelty-free
- Natural & waste-based
- Free from plastic, epoxy, toxic chemicals and cement
Zero Eco Materials can produce Wastural in different shapes and also cut diverse patterns using a milling machine.
Additionally, one can paint the surface using conventional paints.
It can be used in different products such as homeware, interior design, and stationery. However, more research is needed on using it for thermal insulation.
