Materia Madura
Materia Madura transforms biowaste into beautifully designed locally sourced products. The outcome is a circular material that is durable, sustainable, impact and water-resistant.
In Puerto Rico, plantains and coffee are abundant cultural staple foods. That is where Materia Madura comes in.
To promote a circular economy, it collects the two local bio waste materials: discarded plantain peels and used coffee grounds from coffee shops. The material is durable, impact-resistant and water-resistant.
Small batches of reusable moulds are being designed at the workshop. A mould allows the use of only the exact amount required to create its products, thereby eliminating excess materials and offcuts.
As a result, raw materials are converted into sustainable final products.
