Leap™

  • Additional Information

Leap™ is a plant-based leather alternative derived from apple waste. The circular material looks and feels just like traditional leather and as they state, is even more beautiful.

The material was originally created by utilising the huge amounts of apple waste that are discarded by the Cider industry. The solution is a apple fruit leather that can be used just the same as traditional leather but doesn’t create environmental issues from the use of harsh chemicals.

In comparison to traditional leather, Leap™ employs an energy-efficient production process that takes only 1 day to create the material. The process uses 99% less water and ~85% less CO2* than traditional leather production and eliminates the need for harmful chemicals.

The material has been designed with sustainability is at the core of all stages of the materials lifecycle. It is created in a 3-layer structure that allows it to be disassembled at end of life.

Currently, 80% of the material is made from bio-based ingredients, but the company is on the development path to achieve 100% by 2024.
