Bio-PET
(Polyethylene terephthalate)
Bio-PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) is a bio-based non-biodegradable bioplastic.
It is derived from the sugar found in sugar cane
The plastic performs as per traditional fossil-based PET (Polyethylene terephthalate), with the only difference being the original feedstock is sourced from a bio-based renewable resource (sugarcane). Bio-PET is not biodegradable like other bioplastics, but it can be recycled alongside other plastic waste.
Common uses for Bio-PET include plastic carbonated and non-carbonated plastic bottles.
Circular Features
Raw Material
Bio-PET is derived from a natural renewable source compared to traditional fossil fuel-based PET.
Afterlife Plan
Bio-PET can be recycled just the same as traditional PET, this can be mechanical downcycling, (from hard plastic to textile fibre) or chemically recycled.
