Sughera
Sugera by Mixcycling® is a bio-composite material created by combining cork waste and a polymer. The blend of the material is customisable with the polymer base sourced from either virgin, recycled, bio-based, biodegradable, or biodegradable and compostable material.
The finished circular material contains up to 60% natural cork providing and unique and sustainable bio-composite.
The Cork is obtained by utilising cork waste scraps that are discarded through the traditional cork production process. The scraps are recovered, sterilised and then processed into micro granules before manufacture.
Due to the sanitation and activation process, the material is free from heavy metals and bacteria, making it suitable for food contact applications.
Sughera is fantastic for a variety of applications: from cosmetic and food packaging to furniture, from pet toys to industrial and agricultural applications.
The material is:
- 100% Biobased
- LCA friendly
- Has high hygroscopicity
- Resistant to impact
- Resistant to abrasions
- Flame dissipation properties
Circular Features
Raw materials
Sughera is derived from the waste cork, discarded by cork manufacturing. The virgin cork is also a sustainable material as it can be harvested without causing damage to the tree.
The polymers used in Sughera can be customised and vary from either virgin, recycled, bio-based, biodegradable, or biodegradable and compostable material.
End of Lifecycle
At the end of the materials lifecycle, all variants can be recycled in a closed-loop system. Material variants that utilise a biodegradable polymer are also compostable.
