rHIPS
Recycled HIPS (Hi-Impact Polystyrene)
rHIPS is a hard rigid plastic made from post-consumer and post-industrial polystyrene waste (yogurt tubs). The material comes in sheet form, it’s hard, dense and rigid, 100% waterproof, rot-proof and has strong weather resistance.
It has moderate scratch resistance and can be refinished. It can be heat-formed into shape, machined, drilled, cut (router, CNC) and water cut.
The material is best indoors as it can yellow in the sun and is commonly used for benchtops, tabletops, panelling, shelving and furniture.
Available thickness range from 5-20mm and each sheet is unique.
The material is 100% recyclable and can be bought back by SmilePlastics to be remade into new rHIPS.
