  • Additional Information

Mosa is developing a circular tile systems for use in the construction sector.

The main constituents of Mosa tiles are clay and sand, natural raw materials abundant in nature. Tiles are free of hazardous compounds, resulting from years of R&D. All the tile ingredients—including suppliers' raw material chain—were analysed and classified to ppm (parts per million) level.

Gold Cradle to Cradle Gold Certification

Many of the company's products have achieved a Gold Cradle to Cradle Certification. For 99 per cent of its complete tile line, Mosa is the first ceramic tile manufacturer in the world to get Cradle to Cradle® Silver accreditation. That includes wall tiles, floor tiles, terrace and facade tiles.

These are the certification characteristics:

  • Material purity: Sand and clay are the essential ingredients used to make the tiles.
  • Recycling: The items can be repurposed.
  • Energy: Green energy sources provide one-third of the energy required.
  • Water usage: All water used in production is either evaporated or reused.
  • Working conditions: Mosa has decided to keep producing in western Europe, a region with many potential and raw resources.

The tiles have several characteristics, such as a natural, pure ceramic look, inherent versatility, and solid and sustainable properties.

The company is also constantly working on circular systems, circular design, and circular sourcing in the construction sector. For example, it is replacing the natural raw material chalk with calcite, a renewable resource.

Mosa is the first business in the ceramic sector to use calcite, a by-product of the manufacture of drinking water, which it purchases from regional drinking water providers. Using calcite rather than chalk in manufacture has increased the percentage of recycled material from 21 to 33 per cent.

Alongside being renewable, calcite is locally sourced. As calcite is chemically identical to chalk, the tiles retain their high quality.
