Koukoutsi

  • Product Details
  • Additional Information

Koukoutsi is a board material made from the bio-waste of the olive oil production process.

Production process

The end product, i.e. waste (generally, the olive core), is collected from the oil manufacturing process and is used as the raw material. It leads to material generation, after which the material undergoes post-cure. Consequently, the final Koukoutsi eco-material is obtained.

Material properties

Koukoutsi is mostly derived from the olive pit or the olive core, which is one of the major wastes in the Mediterranean. Generally used for heating purposes, Koukos De Lab has turned it into an eco-material instead.

It is a durable circular material that finds applications in furniture, interiors, tiles and walls.

Koukos De Lab began material production by incorporating it into a traditional bench, once found everywhere on the island but now grown scarce, i.e. the Lesvos Bench.

Currently, Koukoutsi is available in 2 types: Olive's Blonde Pip and Olive's Dark Core.

Circular features

Koukoutsi is made from the final waste of the olive oil production process, thus utilizing waste-as-a-resource and extending the life cycle of the ‘olive pip’.
