FATES eco-foam
FATES® is a patented premium eco-foam that boasts an industry-leading 70-80% bio-content. The circular material has been developed by Evoco LTD as a high-performance alternative to petroleum-derived materials.
Ecovoco uses plant chemistry instead of traditional petrochemicals to radically reduce carbon emissions by up to 70%.
FATES® has achieved certifications like Green Circle Certified & USDA Certified Biobased Product
Production process
The process starts from the earth. Plants grow, absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere and store biocarbon. Through sustainable processing, plant-based biocarbons are transformed into biochemical intermediates + monomers. Natural, green additives are added to the formula.
The plant material is procured from sustainably sourced plants & plant waste.
In this way, the eco-foam is made which has applications in fashion, car seatings, furniture, bedding, etc. But currently, the production is focused on making eco-foam for insoles & midsoles of the footwear industry.
Material properties
FATES® is primarily used in footwear for insole and midsole applications. The insoles have enduring properties featuring a low compression set for superior step-in comfort.
When tested, FATES® shows equally or improved mechanical and strength-based properties compared to traditional petrochemical foam. The resulting footwear is lightweight, strong & long-lasting.
FATES® has partners in major footwear companies like Timberland, Vans, Puma, Bates, Kodiak, etc.
Circular features
Manufacturing of FATES® eco-foam reduced CO2 emissions by 70% compared to industry standard PU. Feedstock for bio-based materials uses waste and industrial plant materials not meant for human consumption, hence using minimal land surface.
The company is third-party certified which prevents greenwashing.
