Clayworks
Clayworks clay plaster is a natural, affordable, ready-to-use plaster for interior walls and ceilings.
Production process
The material is 100% natural and derived from blends of unfired clays.
These unique clays are then mixed with natural minerals and pigments to make the final product.
As they are produced from readily available, naturally abundant materials, they require no processing, only blending. The manufacturing process produces zero waste and utilizes little energy and no water.
The clay plaster can be applied with the standard tools, but a Clayworks-approved plasterer is advisable.
* Majority of the finishes are pigmented with natural, organic pigments. But some colours may contain chemical pigments. Also, glazes and primers may contain synthetics or chemicals. Contact the manufacturer for more information.
Material properties
The clay plaster is pre-mixed, pre-pigmented and ready to mix with water and can be applied with traditional plastering tools. It is available in 25 kg recyclable or compostable bags of dried plaster.
The plaster is available in four classic finishes: Smooth, Tonal, Demi-rustic and Rustic. It can also be custom-finished. The clay has 88 standard colours, with custom ones made on request. The colours are UV-stable.
It is most commonly applied directly onto gypsum plasterboard, masonry, blockwork, wood fibre board & wood wool carrier board. Other surfaces may need a backing coat.
Restrictions: it cannot be applied directly onto wood, including plywood, MDF or OSB. It is appropriate for bathrooms but not wet/shower areas. Also advised against use on items that will be moved around, including doors. It is unsuitable for the floor as well.
Clayworks also provides additional essentials like glaze and primer, along with interior waterproof finishes and exterior grade finishes where a seamless match is required.
The material regulates humidity and temperature, attenuates acoustics and allows buildings to breathe.
Any damage caused to a Clayworks surface will be unnoticeable due to its through-bodied colouring. Chips, divots and scratches can be simply repaired by adding a small quantity of colour-matched clay, trowelling and a coat of the protective glaze.
Circular features
The material has extremely low embodied carbon of 0.048 – 0.068 kg CO2 e/kg. An LCA declaration (A1-A3) is also available in Clayworks’ EPD.
The clay has natural, low VOCs and formaldehyde and no polymers or oils. It absorbs toxins and regulates humidity with no off-gassing. Health Product Declaration & VOC Emissions Certificates are also ready.
Easily repairable and can be wiped clean with a non-toxic cleaner.
