Bolon Flooring
Bolon flooring is a range of carpets and rugs, manufactured within a circular business model. Bolon has a long history of being committed to sustainability and embracing circularity.
Flooring and rugs within the range all incorporate:
Zero climate impact
All production has zero climate impact. An integrated recycling plant recycles Bolon’s (and other companies’) waste. That makes it possible to produce high-end design floorings with sustainability as the long-term goal.
Powered by 100% renewable energy
Bolon’s production is powered only by renewable electricity, so there are no emissions from the combustion of gas or other energy sources.
PVC is environmentally labelled
All PVC in floorings is environmentally labelled. The company uses modern PVC with non-hazardous additives. Most Tier 1 suppliers of PVC raw materials are located within 250km of the production facility. Tier 2 suppliers must ensure it is eco-labelled by third parties.
Collections contain recycled materials
All its collections contain recycled materials. Recycled materials comprise 10-30% of the total material used in its collections. Bolon points out that the company reduces its CO2 footprint by two kilograms for every kilogram of recycled material added.
Floorings are free of phthalates and heavy metals
Bolon’s products are free from hazardous plasticisers and stabilisers, such as phthalates and lead. In addition, 79% of the material used in flooring produced is fossil-free. The flooring is also hypoallergenic; the emission levels are below the limit for sensitive environments such as hospitals.
Requirements of emissions during use
All floorings meet the strictest emissions requirements during use over their entire lifespan.
Dry Plant
The whole factory is a dry plant, meaning it does not handle any liquids except water as a humidifier. All water cooling in production is circulated in a closed loop with 0% water consumption.
Production Process
The steps to creating the Bolon flooring material are simple:
- Waste is cut into smaller pieces.
- It is shredded into small fragments.
- An agglomerator shakes, scrambles and mixes the wasted material with chalk.
The recycled material is used to produce the backing-layering of floorings.
Material Properties
- Easy Cleaning: Easy to clean with a vacuum, machine, brush, mop or water.
- Indoor air quality: Because no after-treatments are required, maintenance is easier, and indoor air quality is improved.
- Sound Insulation: Depending on the product, sound insulation’s impact is between 11dB and 22dB.
- Phthalate-free: Its floors contain no harmful plasticisers or stabilisers such as phthalates or heavy metals.
- Impervious to Liquids: Impervious and resilient enough for almost any spill or mess
- Water Resistance: Bolon flooring is water-resistant due to the tightly woven vinyl structure and layers of solid backing.
