BioCir™ is the first flexible and 100% compostable thermoplastic material in the world, reducing toxic, fossil fuel-based materials used in the fashion industry.

The circular material is an injectable, soft, and durable material that enables the creation of fully compostable and biodegradable consumer goods products.
Balena Science has created this by modifying and binding natural, easily scalable ingredients with biodegradable polymers.

Production Process

The natural ingredients are subjected to binding by biodegradable polymers.

A unique biodegradable combination of naturally occurring constituents bound by high molecular weight polymers and modifiers, BioCir™ enables an elastomeric functionality for consumer goods and beyond.

Material properties

BioCir™ is a thermoplastic elastomer whose composition is based on fully biodegradable materials that meet U.S (ASTMD6400-04) and E.U (EN 13432) standards for composting in an industrial compost facility.

BioCir™ products can be manufactured in different ways allowing maximum flexibility; injection molding, extrusion and 3D printing.
