  • Product Details
  • Additional Information

A Matter of Fruit is a bio-film material made from commercial fruit juice waste.

Pomace, the juice press residue is transformed into a recyclable material with an approximate likeness to paper, plastic or leather. Printable ink made from the same source is also in development.

Production process

The material is sourced from fruit juice residues, mainly apple pomace. It is then transformed into films, which can be welded, sewn, laser-cut, engraved, and pressed into shape.

Material properties

The material has excellent tensile strength. It also has varying transparencies and thicknesses. Due to its fusibility, it can be formed into diverse shapes and sizes.

Detailed tests of material performance are underway.

It finds its applications in interior spaces like shades or blinds, lamp shades, etc.

Availability

Made in Germany. Materials in small quantities can be delivered upon request with a max available sheet size of 75x150cm.

Circular features

Currently, pomace is mainly used as compost, fodder, to obtain pectin or to produce biogas. But A Matter of Fruit has found unique capabilities in the material to substitute toxic plastics and animal-based leather in our daily life.

The material utilizes the waste-to-value approach and incorporates 100% natural ingredients, thus building opportunities in the circular economy. The end-of-life plan of the material may also return nutrients into the loop through composting.

It has also been successfully recycled into a plant pot, which can biodegrade within three weeks, thus rendering Nature as the end consumer.
